Locked Out Because of Too Many Failed Attempts? First try this self-help tip!

After three unsuccessful login attempts, the system locks your account.  When this happens, first try to unlock the account yourself by using the instructions for Activating Your Sinai Central Account. You will have an opportunity to modify your login information. You can also have Sinai Central send you a temporary password via email. See Forgot Your Password below for a further discussion. You can also ask your Departmental Administrator or a support person in the IT Development Center (ITDC) to unlock your account. Your Departmental Administrator can find directions for unlocking a user account here.

Forgot Your Password

If you forget your password, it cannot be retrieved. Instead, the system will assign a random password to you. It will be sent to you via email. After you log in to Sinai Central with your new password, you can change it to something easier to remember.  Your Departmental Administrator or a support person in the IT Development Center (ITDC) can also reset your password. Your Departmental Administrator can find directions for resetting your password here.

If Your Browser Remembers Your Password

Some web browsers remember your username and password for web sites that you log in to. If your browser automatically fills in the username and password when you reach a login page, then this feature is turned on in your browser.

Storing your usernames and passwords in your browser is a security risk. Anyone who gains access to your computer can log in to web sites you belong to, without knowing your username and password. This is why Sinai Central will not work with this feature.

It is okay if your browser remembers your Sinai Central username, but not your password . If your browser attempts to fill in your Sinai Central password, it breaks the Sinai Central login. You cannot log in to Sinai Central if your browser is trying to fill in the password for you. You must type in your Sinai Central password each time you log in.

If your browser offers to remember your passwords, respond "No" to any such prompts. Below are directions for turning off this feature in your browser.

If you have Internet Explorer, read the "Internet Explorer" subsection immediately below.

If you have Netscape Navigator, skip to the Netscape Navigator subsection.

Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer may offer to remember your password for Sinai Central. If the prompt looks like this

select Never.

If the prompt looks like this:

select Don't offer to remember any more passwords and then select No.

In the Hospital, Internet Explorer is installed to remember passwords by default. When you begin using Sinai Central, you should turn this feature off.

Note: The following procedure will clear all of your saved passwords. If you're storing passwords in Internet Explorer for other web sites, you'll need to remember and retype those passwords from now on.

  1. Launch Internet Explorer.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options....
  3. The General tab should be frontmost. Select the Content tab.
  4. Select the button labeled AutoComplete....
  5. De-select the check box for User names and passwords....
  6. Click the button Clear Passwords.
  7. In the resulting dialog box, when it reads Clear all previously saved..., click OK to confirm.
  8. Select OK and then OK again.  You should be back at Internet Explorer.
  9. Log in to Sinai Central again.

Netscape Navigator

If Netscape Navigator ever prompts you to save password information for Sinai Central, select Never for this site:

If you're using Netscape Navigator, and it has already learned your password and keeps trying to fill in your Sinai Central password, you must do two things. You must remove your password from Netscape's memory. And, you must tell Netscape to not "re-learn" your password. The following procedure will accomplish both of these:

  1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences....
  2. From the Category list on the left, double-click Privacy & Security.
  3. Under Privacy & Security, select Passwords.
  4. If there is a check in the checkbox for Remember passwords, click to clear the checkbox:
  5. Select the button for Manage Stored Passwords.
  6. Under the tab for Passwords Saved, select Sinai Central:

  7. Select the Remove button.
  8. Select the Close and then OK button to return to Netscape. Your Sinai Central password has been cleared from Netscape's memory, and Netscape will no longer try to remember passwords.
