What types of transactions are presently not conducted in the Deposit module?
Credit card and lockbox transactions are currently being conducted offline. We are currently conducting beta trials for credit cards deposits; expect this to be added as a feature to the module soon. Please continue to conduct "business as usual" for these transactions until further notified.
I want to do a search for a particular check that has been deposited. Will I be able to do this?
Just about all fields within the deposit module are searchable; including "Type" and "User Comments". If a check # was entered into the deposit in anyone of these fields, you will be able to find it. See the example below.
To do a search for any transaction on the funds you have access to on Sinai Central:
Login to Sinai Central
Navigate the left-hand menu by selecting Finance > Transactions > Search.
Once there, keep in mind some tips for more successful searching:
- Use the most specific terms you can. For example, use request number, PO number, name, etc.
- Use as few search terms as possible. If adding a term to the criteria is not likely to narrow down the results, don't add it.
- Avoid words that may appear very frequently (even popular vendor names). The most common and generic terms, such as the, a, of, inc, etc., are ignored by the system unless they are part of a phrase.
- If you are looking for a phrase, quote the terms. For example: "black pen"
- Rely on exact matching where possible. For example, searching for pen will find one pen, but not many pens.
- If you need to use a wildcard, then affix a star after the word: pen* will match pen, pens, pencil, etc.
Searching for the check # 357 brought back this response:
Will this change the way that deposits are approved in my department?
The short answer is it should not. Depending on how your department does business presently, deposits maybe approved before going to the cashier. After using the online system, your department may begin to adjust their workflow and add an approval stage. Note that institution wide, there have been no additions to finance policy on approving deposits.
Wait a minute. Why have I been added to sign off on the Deposits?
The Finance Department has created a system policy for Sinai Central that states: deposits do not need to be signed off for all funds. With that active, Sinai Central matches institutional policy. If you have been added to sign off on deposits, this is because a Department Administrator has chosen this as an approval step within your department. Finance level policies do not contradict any departmental level policies for deposits.
If your department is using the default departmental signing rules, you will have a departmental approval step on deposits. The default signing rule states that you need at least one signature on all transactions within Sinai Central.
You should always check with your department to find out what are the internal policies and reporting practices before proceeding with any transaction on Sinai Central. Department heads should review their signing policies that are in place for funds and adjust them accordingly.
A discussion on how to assign and adjust roles, rules, and policies is available here.
I have been made a Deposit Manager for my department. Am I now approving deposits?
A Deposit Manager's role within a department is explained here. Deposit Managers (by default) are not added to the approval path for a deposit.
Internet Explorer 7 issues
When you use Internet Explorer 7 for browsing, the following may occur:
From within the Deposits module you select *Other* for a Description.
A window appears
What also appears is a message at top of the browser window
To resolve this:
- Click on the OK button to clear the window.
- Do not click on the X in the message. Click on the message anywhere else to get a pull-down menu
- Select Temporarily Allow Scripted Windows. This will allow you to continue with entering the description that was not available from the description menu for this session.
- Select *Other* from the Description menu to continue.
As Deposit Manager, I can see all the funds in my department. When I tried to make a deposit, a fund was not listed for me. Why?
A user wrote:
"Good Morning:
....regarding Dr. Daniel Herz's.....account on Sinai Central. For
some reason, I am not able to load Dr. Herz’s from the Deposit Manager to the Deposit form
so that he may get credit for checks received from the insurance companies.
Can you please assist?
Thanks in advance."
This is happening because the user has departmental access to funds, but was not given access to the fund itself. Taking a look at the Manage Descriptions tool available to Deposit Managers, the fund in question is available (highlighted in blue).
When the funds for the user are reviewed, the fund is not found.
The result of the mismatch will not allow the user to make a deposit to the account. To fix this, the user must be granted access to the fund. Once given access, the fund code will be available in the drop-down list in the deposit.
Why is there an Edit now in the form?
May, 2007 - A bug was found on the form that slowed down browsers when loading a large amount of Deposits via the manual upload. The result was a small change in the form. The result was the addition of an Edit link to trigger the Fund/Object Code drop-down menus.

The addition of this quick mouse click for users of the Deposit form has increased the speed of redrawing long deposits on the screen significantly.
